Pantrydle Rules

Pantrydle is a daily dish guessing game. Each day has one secret dish. You guess dish names from the shared bank and compare eight attributes after every try.

Goal

Identify the secret dish in at most 8 guesses. A win means every attribute on your latest row is correct (green).

How a guess works

  1. Type a dish name and pick it from autocomplete suggestions.
  2. Submit the guess to append a new attribute row.
  3. Read the colors and arrows, then guess again with better constraints.

Attributes

Cuisine · Main ingredient · Cook method · Taste · Time band · Difficulty · Vegetarian · Temp (Hot/Cold).

Colors and arrows

  • Green — exact match for that attribute.
  • Yellow — close cuisine family (limited cases).
  • Gray — miss; that value is not the answer.
  • ↑ on Time or Difficulty — the answer is higher on the ordered scale.
  • ↓ on Time or Difficulty — the answer is lower on the ordered scale.

Time scale: Quick → Medium → Long. Difficulty scale: Easy → Medium → Hard.

Daily UTC reset

The daily dish is seeded from the UTC calendar date (YYYY-MM-DD). Everyone playing the same UTC day gets the same answer. A new UTC midnight starts a new puzzle. Local browser storage keeps your current day’s guesses and streak; it does not change the global answer.

Unlimited mode

Unlimited uses the same rules and guess limit, but picks a random dish each round. After you finish, use New dish to practice again. Unlimited rounds do not advance the daily streak.

Sharing

When a round ends, Share copies an emoji summary (greens, yellows, grays, and arrows) plus the pantrydle.com link. The share text never reveals the dish name.
